We build all financial models bottoms-up and broken out by channel and product category. We see the financial model more than just an investor diligence item, but rather as an operating tool that enables us to understand the sensitivity of key assumptions. We also focus on building a true path to profitability with sustainable growth, not growth at all costs. Our models are extremely comprehensive, but easy for everyone on the team to follow.

It all begins with understanding your customer behavior. Using historical data, we can build predictive analytics and dive deeper into the data to understand how LTV changes by customer type or initial order type. Once we have a grasp of how customers will behave, we can lean into marketing to promote customers habits that will lead to greater LTVs. Using this data, we build a financial model and set guardrails around spend that align with these unit economics.

Using a bottoms-up approach, we build comprehensive analyses that evaluate both current and future margins. Identifying the key drivers around costs allows us to promote various initiatives that will deliver significant cost reductions to optimize for gross margin as well as customer experience. We conduct an extensive RFP for fulfillment and/or shipping partners, from negotiating rates and contract terms to providing recommendations to optimize for service levels, cost, transit times and scalability. We develop a transition plan to support implementation with new service providers.
